Utilizing this simple tool, along with concrete stencils, will help you create a professional-looking parking lot layout.

What's First?

The first thing you need to do is prepare your surface. Preparation is key to applying long-lasting parking lot lines to your surface, and here's why:

  • Repair cracks before you add sealant to your surface. Cracks will erode and damage your parking area.
  • Remove dirt, debris, grease and oil stains before applying sealant and aerosol paint to the parking lot area. Grease and oil eat through sealant, exposing your surfaces to the elements. Our AK Universal Cleanser Degreaser is biodegradable and eco-friendly.
  • Apply a sealant to protect your surface. This application adds a professional, finished touch to your parking lot.

Knowledge Is Power

Once you know what to expect in terms of time and money, you can fine-tune your needs to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Consider a carefully constructed layout for your customers, delivery and pick-up services. Coordinate federal and state guidelines, handicapped parking, walking areas and traffic flow. Select your aerosol paint color.

Paint Tips

Choose paint formulated for your traffic areas. Durability, drying time and road surface type all factor into your paint selection.

Water based paint is less durable than oil based paint, and costs less. This is a good choice for areas where annual lot maintenance takes place. Use water based paint for light-traffic parking lots, fire lanes and curbs.

Oil based paint's durability is a great choice for high traffic areas. Oil based paint cannot be applied over water based paint because the oil based paint will not adhere well to surfaces painted with water based paint.

Aerosol paint is excellent for small projects. Highlight handicapped areas or use it for temporary field striping marking. AK's commercial grade aerosol paints contain 50% more pigment.

Apply paint at temperatures of 60+, with no precipitation for at least 24 hours.
